3. south tower of St. Stephen’s Cathedral

343 steps lead to the highest church tower in Austria at 136.4m . Climbing up the narrow staircase, which serves as both ascent and descent, is an experience in itself. The view is worth the effort and the nice souvenirs in the Türmerstube could be an incentive.

4.Schönbrunn Palace
Schönbrunn Palace, the former summer residence of the Habsburgs , is also worth a visit for families with children. Especially in the Hall of Mirrors, where the little six-year-old Mozart gave his first concert in front of the imperial family. In the children’s museum , the little ones can then transform themselves into imperial children and try on clothes and wigs.

5th Schönbrunn Zoo
The real highlight for families with children is of course Schönbrunn Zoo, the oldest zoo still in existence in the world. It was founded by the Habsburgs in 1752 and is home to around 700 animal species. Elephants, giraffes, lions, polar bears, panas and koalas feel right at home in this imperial setting.

The Technical Museum is located near Schönbrunn Palace . It offers free admission for children and young people up to the age of 19! A real treat for those interested in technology , which will hopefully cover many of the little ones’ “why” questions.

7th House of the Sea
Those who are more interested in sea creatures are in good hands in the House of the Sea . Finding Nemo can be played here. The shark tank is scary, but the glass tunnel provides protection. Little monkeys also romp around here and the roof terrace offers a fantastic view of Vienna. The Haus des Meeres is located in a former anti-aircraft tower, and a museum still bears witness to the wartime era in Vienna.

8th Prater and Giant Ferris Wheel
The amusement park (also known as the “Wurstelprater”) is free to enter and you pay per attraction. The highlight is of course the Ferris wheel with a beautiful view over Vienna. Chain carousel, Autodrom, Liliputbahn for the very little ones and high slides for the older ones provide fun and action.

9th Natural History Museum
In the Dinosaur Hall of the Natural History Museum (NHM) , these giant flying birds seem to come back to life. All the animals can be viewed here in stuffed form. The small elephant figure at the entrance is already arousing curiosity.

For horse lovers, a visit to the Lipizzaner is a must, but not only. The Spanish Riding School has a worldwide reputation. You can watch the morning training for little money and listen to classical music. There are also guided tours of the stables.

What child doesn’t love stroking cats? At Café Neko (Neko means cat in Japanese) you can combine a coffee break with petting cats . It is very centrally located, just a few minutes’ walk from St. Stephen’s Cathedral.

13th children’s farm at Cobenzl
Sheep, goats, pigs, rabbits, geese and turkeys can be petted and fed here. A paradise for children on four hectares. Guided tours of the farm are offered. But you can also learn about herbs, climate and plants here and the children will be thrilled. The Cobenzl estate also offers a wonderful view of Vienna.

14th Lainzer Tiergarten with Hermes Villa
Lots of wild boars roam free in the Lainzer Tiergarten. It is a publicly accessible nature reserve in the west of Vienna. The Vienna Woods make up part of the area. You can go on hikes and see deer, roe deer, salamanders and maybe even wild boars. The little ones can let off steam at several forest playgrounds. Nature trails inform the curious about the Vienna Woods. There are always great views of Vienna.
