In 2026, Vienna will be celebrating major anniversaries: important cultural institutions, venues steeped in tradition and landmark events will be celebrating milestone birthdays and inviting visitors to rediscover the city’s history.

Burgtheater – 250 years

Vienna’s Burgtheater is celebrating its 250th anniversary as Austria’s national theater. Since its foundation in 1776, the Burgtheater has stood for the highest art of theater in the German-speaking world and is today the largest spoken theater in Europe. With its three associated venues Akademietheater, Kasino and Vestibült, it combines tradition, diversity and innovation in a unique way.

Collection of the Albertina – 250 years

The originally private collection of Albert Duke of Saxe-Teschen was founded in 1776 and today comprises over one million objects. It is one of the most important art collections in the world.

Natural History Museum Vienna – 150 years

The Natural History Museum Vienna was legally founded in 1876 with the signature of Emperor Franz Joseph I and officially opened in 1889. With over 30 million objects, the natural history collection is one of the most important natural history museums in the world.

Hotel Sacher – 150 years

The Hotel Sacher Wien has been an icon of Viennese hospitality and coffee house culture since 1876. On its 150th anniversary, the traditional hotel stands for timeless elegance, famous guests and, last but not least, the world-famous Sacher cake, which is inextricably linked to Vienna.

Mozarthaus Vienna – 20 years

Mozarthaus Vienna, located in Mozart’s former Viennese apartment, is celebrating its 20th anniversary. It offers visitors a unique insight into the life and work of the composer and combines historical authenticity with modern communication.

Vienna Festival – 75 years

The Wiener Festwochen has been shaping the city’s international cultural life for 75 years. The festival stands for innovative productions, interdisciplinary art and global perspectives – and is celebrating its anniversary in 2026 with a particularly diverse program.

Rainbow parade – 30 years

The Rainbow Parade celebrates its 30th anniversary in 2026 and is now the largest Pride parade in Central Europe. It stands for visibility, equality and social diversity and is the highlight of Vienna Pride.

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart – 270 years

The 270th birthday of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart is being celebrated in Vienna with numerous events. As one of the most important composers in the history of music, Mozart is still closely associated with the city today and has had a lasting impact on its cultural identity.
